Veterinary Clinics

This Clinic of the College is a nodal referral hospital of the State for the treatment of obstinate and undiagnosed ailing animals as well as an important service point of the institution for the farmers in particular. The Veterinary Clinic is a platform to impart the practical teaching of undergraduate and post-graduate students in the field of Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology, Epidemiology and Pathology, Microbiology, Parasitology and Clinical Biochemistry to some extent.  The faculty of the College offered 0+8 credit hours to U.G.  as well as the backbone for conducting 0+16 credit hours courses offered by different departments (Clinical Veterinary Medicine, Epidemiology, Surgery and Animal Reproduction).  During the years, a total of 4930 animals in different species like cows, buffaloes, sheep, goats, rabbits, horses, dogs, cats, poultry, wild animals and pet or wild birds were administered tender health care.  The clinic also co-ordinate for arranging clinical camps in different parts of the State as well as in attending disease outbreaks of various species of livestock.  The artificial insemination service was rendered to 964 animals including 511 fresh cases during the year 2000..

Clinical Camps:

            The experts from clinic and para-clinical attended a total of 49 clinical camps in different parts of State. during the year 2000. A total of 1750 animals affected with different afflictions were attended in these camps.  On the spot, treatment was also undertaken including some surgical operations like medial patellar desimotomy, castration, tail amputation and tumours etc.

Clinical Diagnostic Activities:   

            The clinic has adequate facilities for referral clinical diagnostic service for faecal, blood, urine, milk and skin scrapping etc. Altogether 562 clinical samples collected from different species of animals were examined for diagnosis.  Main diseases diagnosed were babesiosis, theileriosis, amphistomiasis. strongylosis, fungal mastitis in addition to  many other diseases.

Ambulatory Clinical Practice:

            The faculty members of clinical departments alongwith 4th and 5th professional students regularly rendered the ambulatory clinical service at different veterinary institutes of Kangra, Mandi districts as well as other places on request from different local self government bodies

Care for the Wildlife:

            Captive wild animals were treated at Nature Awareness Park, Gopalpur and Lion Safari, Reneuka and also other referred wild captive birds and animals were treated at this clinic.  Specialised services are also provided to the State wildlife department in capturing the leopards.

Emergency and Consultancy Services:

            Emergency services are rendered to the farmers at their door-steps as well as in the clinic even at odd hours.  This clinic is also providing services on Sundays and other Holidays from 10.00 A.M. to 1.00 P.M.  A large number of people have availed the benefit of telephonic and personal consultancy services being provided at this clinic and other faculty members on better livestock production and health care. Consultancy to 11017 cases were provided either on telephone or by personal visits by the farmers.  The consultancy services is getting popular among farmers day by day.
